Choosing and decorating a Christmas tree is one of the most magical festive traditions. Nothing beats the wonderful fresh pine scent, appearance and texture of a real Christmas tree, and making the right choice and providing good care will ensure your tree is still around to see in the New Year!

Choosing a real Christmas tree is the greener choice too, as every tree harvested from a Christmas tree farm is replanted, and every part of a real tree can be shredded and re-used, regardless of whether it’s potted or cut. And of course if you choose a potted tree and look after it carefully over the festive season, you may even be able to plant it in the garden once the festivities are over.

Before you come in to choose your tree, make sure you know how much room you have, measuring the ceiling height and the width of your space – we’ll help you select your tree and, as part of the service, we’ll prepare it for you.

If you’re going to be using a stand, once you’ve chosen your tree we’ll prepare it, removing any lower branches to make sure it fits into your stand securely.  We’ll also saw off an inch from the trunk to provide a good, clean cut – this allows your tree to take up maximum water which in turn keeps it looking better for longer.

And whether you choose a cut or potted tree, once your tree is ready we’ll wrap it carefully to make it easier to transport and keep it protected on the journey home.

Once you get your tree home, place it in as cool a position as possible, ideally away from radiators or open fires.  If you’re using a stand, resist the temptation to fill it with soil or sand as these block the pores in the bark, and keep your tree in plain water – and whether in a stand or potted, remember to water your tree daily as it may need as much as three pints a day to keep it in tip-top condition over Christmas.
