Jobs to do this Summer!

Put up shading in the greenhouse or use special greenhouse paint to protect the young plants from scorching in the sun.

Plant up hanging baskets & pots for instant colour, use a slow release fertilizer to feed them & keep them looking good all summer.

Feed tomatoes & Peppers with a high potash feed to keep them producing fruit all season.

Lawns need a good feed through the summer. Use either a liquid or granular feed & remember to keep watering newly laid lawns so the seed keeps growing or if your put turf down it doesn’t shrink.

Trimming spring-flowering shrubs after they bloom helps shape them and encourages future blooms. Deadheading spent flowers promotes more blooms.

Regularly inspect plants and act quickly to manage pests. Natural remedies or targeted treatments can be effective.

Clean garden furniture and BBQs to extend their life and improve their appearance for summer entertaining. Protective covers can prevent damage.

We stock a range of garden furniture and BBQ’s, check them out in our gallery here or visit our garden centre for an unforgettable experience.

Be water wise & save where you can. Use saucers & trays under plants to stop the water from running away. Only water early in the morning or late in the evenings so the water doesn’t evaporate. It’s never too late in the season to install a water butt to save the precious rain water.

Keep dead heading faded sweet pea flowers to encourage new blooms – don’t waste them, fill a vase to bring the beautiful scent indoors.

Keep tying in the new growth of climbing plants so it doesn’t get damaged.

Regular weeding keeps your garden looking tidy and ensures that your plants aren’t competing with weeds for nutrients and water, which is especially crucial during the growing season.

Essential during the summer, especially in dry spells.

Proper watering in the early morning or late evening helps ensure that plants stay hydrated without losing much moisture to evaporation.

Install a watering system, consider installing a drip irrigation system or sprinklers.

Water regularly to ensure plants get enough water, particularly during hot periods.

To maintain a neat and healthy lawn, frequently mow it and ensure it is regularly watered, especially during dry periods, using an appropriate lawn fertiliser.

Additionally, eliminate weeds and apply a weed killer if necessary.

Mulching your lawn during summer has several benefits. It helps retain soil moisture, reducing the need for frequent watering and conserving water.

Mulch also suppresses weed growth and acts as an insulator, keeping the soil cooler in the heat and warmer at night. As it decomposes, mulch enriches the soil with nutrients, improving its structure.
