Make your Christmas dinner even more special this year by growing your own tasty new potatoes ready for the big day.

Your potatoes can be planted anytime from the end of July, just be aware that the planting to harvest time is shorter than you would normally expect – at around 12 weeks – due to higher soil temperatures.

Principles for growing are the same as at the usual planting time of the year, and remember you can choose to plant directly into the ground, or into pots or containers. Care is also as you would expect, so be sure to ‘earth up’ your plants as they develop and keep them watered – and you’ll also need to protect them from frost as the colder temperatures arrive.
